How ADR Technology Works

ADR SOL WALLS operates through a well-characterised physical mechanism. The following is a technical account of how the impregnated mineral matrix interacts with ambient electromagnetic fields — and why that interaction is relevant to building professionals specifying for indoor environmental quality.

1. A Passive Dielectric System

After impregnation, the treated wall surface becomes a lossy dielectric — a material capable of absorbing and dissipating energy from ambient alternating electric fields. This effect is most pronounced at the power-frequency range of 50/60 Hz, which characterises the artificial fields generated by standard electrical wiring and connected devices within buildings. The wall does not block the field by reflecting it; instead, the material absorbs the field energy and converts it to negligible heat — a process analogous to acoustic damping in conventional materials science.

2. Interfacial Polarisation: The Maxwell-Wagner-Sillars Mechanism

The underlying mechanism is Maxwell-Wagner-Sillars (MWS) interfacial polarisation. The ADR mineral matrix is a multiphase dielectric: it contains regions of differing electrical permittivity and conductivity separated by internal phase boundaries. When an alternating electric field is applied across this matrix, free charge carriers — electrons and ions — accumulate at these phase boundaries rather than traversing the bulk material freely. This charge accumulation produces local polarisation effects that interact with and attenuate the ambient field. MWS polarisation is a well-documented phenomenon in heterogeneous dielectrics and is routinely analysed in the literature on composite insulation systems, biological tissues, and geological materials.

3. Field Modification, Not Field Generation — The Lens Analogy

The ADR material does not generate a field of its own. It acts as a passive modifier of the existing ambient field geometry. In optical terms, the analogy is to a lens rather than a light source: the lens does not create light, but it locally redistributes the light passing through it. The treated surface similarly reshapes the spatial distribution of the alternating electric field in the immediate vicinity — concentrating, deflecting, and attenuating it in a pattern governed by the dielectric properties of the mineral matrix. This localised field redistribution is measurable by standard field-mapping instruments and does not involve generation of any new electromagnetic energy.

4. Effect on Microorganisms: A Physical Disruption

Where a microorganism is present within the near-surface zone modified by the ADR material, it becomes part of the local dielectric system. The alternating polarisation cycles and the associated energy dissipation within that zone subject the organism to a continuous physical perturbation of its electrical environment. This disrupts the structural and electrical equilibrium of cellular systems, limiting the activity and development of microorganisms in that zone. This is not a chemical reaction: no biocidal compounds are released, and the mechanism does not depend on direct contact toxicity or dissolution of active agents.

5. Independent Confirmation

The physical mechanism described above is formally confirmed by a statement from the Institute of Molecular Physics, Polish Academy of Sciences (IFM PAN), dated 10 December 2024. The IFM PAN statement affirms that the ADR impregnation process produces a surface with lossy dielectric properties, that interfacial polarisation consistent with the Maxwell-Wagner-Sillars mechanism occurs within the mineral matrix, and that the resulting modification of the local electromagnetic field geometry is measurable and consistent with the observed effects on microbial activity. This institutional confirmation from a national academy of sciences research institute provides independent scientific validation of the mechanism underlying ADR SOL WALLS.

Patent & Intellectual Property

The ADR Technology mineral formulation is protected by European Patent EP 3 230 518 B1, with parallel patent protection granted in the United States, China, and Brazil. The patent covers both the composition of the mineral matrix and its method of application to building substrates and other surfaces. The technology was invented by Dr Stanisław Wosiński and developed by his company, ADR System, in Gdańsk, Poland. All formulations are manufactured within the European Union.
